‘He doesn’t know how not to work’: Cosme earns CCAA Pitcher of the Week
Cal Poly Pomona sophomore Anthony Cosme established a commanding pitching presence on the mound in his first start of the baseball season against Cal State Dominguez Hills March 28 with a 5-1 victory, earning him CCAA Pitcher of the Week.
Cosme ended the night tallying 10 strikeouts with 85 pitches in six innings of work. His 10 strikeouts are tied for the most strikeouts in a single CCAA game this season.
Head coach Randy Betten praised the performance of the 19 year old right-handed pitcher March 28. “That was incredible,” Betten said. “What he did on Saturday was special. I mean, that was dominance, and hopefully more of that to come.”
LA Olympics to use CSU,UC dorms for athlete, staff housing
With the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics just over three years away, it is confirmed universities such as Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Dominguez Hills and UCLA will be housing athletes and staff.
Using university student housing in the LA area will save the city $1 billion in construction costs, according to the Los Angeles Times. Furthermore, since new infrastructure built for the Olympics are occasionally abandoned after the Games end, using student housing further minimizes this risk.
Women’s soccer best aPU in round of 16
The NCAA West Regional Final saw a rematch of the first game of the 2025 campaign, as the Cal Poly Pomona women’s soccer team faced off against Azusa Pacific University, which resulted in an 1-0 win for the Broncos Nov 29.
The last time these two teams met was Sept. 4, where the Broncos captured a 3-1 victory with goals from Marisa Salazar, Anna Schellpeper and Vanessa Cruz.
“It was fun to see the difference between the two teams from the start of the season to the end,” said head coach Jay Mason. “I think today was a good representation of two teams that were well organized and wanted to win the game.”

Despite a second-half fight from Broncos, bringing the game within five points after being down by 16, the Cal Poly Pomona men’s basketball team dropped its second home game of 2026 against the Cal State San Marcos Cougars with a final score of 79-60.
Despite dealing with numerous injuries this season, it has been a next man up mentality for the Broncos. Head coach Greg Kamansky said he was proud of the way his team battled throughout. Coming into the Jan. 10 game, the Broncos maintained an overall record of 8-5 and a conference record of 3-4. The Cougars had a similar overall record of 7-5, with a conference record of 4-3.
“You know, a lot of guys out there playing minutes they haven’t played in a long time,” Kamansky said. “Half our team is injured, so for what we have out there, I was pretty proud of them for what we were doing.”
